PrimeHeadlines.com | June 11, 2025 — Indian Railways has announced major changes to the Tatkal ticket booking system, which will take effect from July 1, 2025. The updated rules aim to streamline the booking process, enhance passenger security, and curb misuse by agents.
🔒 Aadhaar-Based Booking Made Mandatory
From July 1, Tatkal bookings via the IRCTC website or app will be permitted only for Aadhaar-authenticated users. Passengers must undergo OTP-based Aadhaar verification, which will become mandatory from July 15, 2025.
🧾 Non-Aadhaar Users Face New Verification Norms
For those booking through PRS counters or authorised agents (YTSK), the Indian Railways will require an OTP verification sent to the booking person’s mobile number. This new step also begins from July 15, 2025.
🛑 Restrictions for Travel Agents
In a move to prioritize genuine passengers, authorised agents will not be allowed to book Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of opening:
AC Class bookings: Agents restricted from 10:00 to 10:30 AM
Non-AC Class bookings: Agents restricted from 11:00 to 11:30 AM
These changes are expected to reduce fraudulent bookings and improve access for ordinary passengers during high-demand periods.
