The ongoing unrest in Manipur escalated on September 10, 2024, when students defied a curfew and clashed with police in the Imphal Valley. Protests were driven by mounting concerns over rising violence in the state. Internet services were banned in five districts, and a curfew was enforced in two of them.
The demonstrators, primarily students, attempted to storm the Raj Bhavan and the Chief Minister’s residence, but were met with force. More than 50 students were injured, with the more seriously hurt receiving treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.
This unrest is part of the broader tension in Manipur, which has experienced ethnic and communal violence over the past months, significantly impacting the region.
