Alexis Lorenze, a 23-year-old woman from Florida, is currently in critical condition after experiencing a life-threatening reaction to vaccines administered at UCI Medical Centre in Orange, California. Diagnosed with Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) earlier this year, Lorenze sought treatment at the hospital for her rare blood disorder, which initially included a blood transfusion. While the transfusion provided some relief, her doctors recommended that she receive three vaccines—Tetanus, Pneumococcal, and Meningitis—before proceeding with further treatment.
However, within ten minutes of receiving the vaccines, Lorenze’s condition rapidly deteriorated. She reported a series of alarming symptoms, including temporary blindness, a locked jaw, and vomiting. Her symptoms escalated quickly, leaving her fighting for her life in a critical care unit. Visuals of Lorenze on social media have shown her swollen, bruised face and body, as well as severe inflammation, which she attributes to the vaccine reaction.
Lorenze’s case has caught the attention of the Vaccine Safety Research Foundation (VSRF), an organization that has been vocal about vaccine safety concerns. In response to her deteriorating health, the VSRF has dispatched a team of trusted doctors and Registered Nurse Angela Wulbrecht to assist with her care. Lorenze, who does not have health insurance in California, is now being transferred to a private hospital in Los Angeles for specialized care, supported by a fundraising effort to cover her medical expenses.
This case has sparked considerable debate and controversy, with many questioning the decision to administer vaccines to someone with such a rare and delicate condition as PNH. Lorenze and her family are holding the hospital accountable, believing the vaccines triggered her current medical crisis. Her story has gained significant attention online, particularly on TikTok, where she has been documenting her health journey.
Lorenze’s situation highlights a larger conversation around vaccine safety, especially for individuals with pre-existing conditions. Her case is being used by vaccine safety advocates as an example of the potential risks associated with vaccines. However, health authorities continue to emphasize the importance of vaccines in preventing life-threatening infections, while also acknowledging that adverse reactions, though rare, can occur in some individuals.
