Putin Visits India for Annual Summit with PM Modi

New Delhi, December 5, 2025 | Prime Headlines:
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India for the annual bilateral summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking another year of high-level diplomatic engagement between the two long-time strategic partners.

Both leaders held detailed delegation-level talks in New Delhi, focusing on defense cooperation, energy security, and expanding bilateral trade. India and Russia have recorded their highest-ever trade levels this year, driven largely by oil, defense supplies, and technology partnerships.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s position calling for peaceful dialogue in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Putin praised the 25-year strategic partnership between the two nations and noted that despite global tensions, energy and trade cooperation between India and Russia continues to grow.

During the meeting, Modi gifted Putin a Russian-language edition of the Bhagavad Gita, which the Russian President accepted warmly. The symbolic gesture drew attention online, with clips of the moment shared widely across social media platforms.

Putin also highlighted the role of India in maintaining a balanced multipolar world order, while criticizing recent Western trade restrictions — including U.S. tariffs affecting Indian refiners and restrictions on Russian exports.

The summit concluded with both countries agreeing to strengthen cooperation in space, nuclear energy, defense manufacturing, digital payments, and economic development goals through 2030.

This visit continues a decades-long diplomatic tradition and signals that, despite shifting global alliances and geopolitical pressures, the India-Russia partnership remains firm.
