China Unveils 600 KM/H Maglev Train — A Wake-Up Call for Indian Railways?

Beijing | July 13, 2025 — In a stunning leap for high-speed travel, China has officially launched its Maglev (magnetic levitation) train, capable of reaching speeds up to 600 km/h, making it the fastest ground transport in the world.
This revolutionary train can cover 1,200 kilometers in just 2.5 hours, slashing the current travel time of 5.5 hours by bullet train nearly in half.
The launch has sparked comparisons worldwide—especially in India, where the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Express takes over 15 hours and 40 minutes to cover a similar distance of 1,384 km.

While India continues to invest in semi-high-speed corridors and ongoing bullet train projects, experts say it’s time for Indian Railways to rethink speed, innovation, and infrastructure.
China’s Maglev project, years in the making, uses electromagnetic force to eliminate track friction, offering near-silent, ultra-fast transport—a stark contrast to India’s aging rail network, often plagued by delays and congestion.
The question now is: Can India catch up—or will it continue to lag behind in the race for high-speed rail dominance?
