The Donut Battery: Solid-State Power Goes Mainstream

Las Vegas | Prime Headlines:
At CES 2026, Donut Lab and Verge Motorcycles unveiled what they call the world’s first production-ready all-solid-state battery, marking a major breakthrough for electric mobility.

Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries that rely on liquid electrolytes, the new Donut Battery uses a solid-state electrolyte, making it significantly safer and more stable. The companies confirmed that the technology will move directly into production, with deployment planned for the Verge TS lineup this quarter.

Why It’s a Big Deal

The Donut Battery delivers industry-leading performance:

Energy density: 400 Wh/kg

Charging time: Full charge in just five minutes

Lifespan: Rated for 100,000 charge cycles

Temperature stability: Operates safely from -30°C to 100°C

By eliminating liquid electrolytes, the design removes the risk of thermal runaway, one of the biggest safety concerns in current EV batteries. The battery also uses more sustainable materials, aligning with long-term clean energy goals.

A Turning Point for EVs

Solid-state batteries have long been considered the “holy grail” of electric vehicles, but until now they remained confined to labs and prototypes. Donut Lab’s announcement signals a shift from theory to real-world deployment.

Industry experts say this could dramatically change expectations around charging speed, safety, and battery lifespan, not just for motorcycles but for the broader EV market.

With production already scheduled, the Donut Battery may mark the moment when solid-state power truly arrives.
