Delhi Residents Protest Against Government Over Rising Air Pollution

New Delhi, Nov 10, 2025 | Prime Headlines:
Hundreds of residents took to the streets of Delhi today, protesting against the government’s failure to control the city’s severe air pollution, which has once again pushed the national capital into the world’s list of most polluted cities.

Protesters, including students, environmental activists, and local residents, gathered at India Gate and Jantar Mantar, holding placards reading “We Can’t Breathe” and “Clean Air is Our Right.”

Many demonstrators accused both the Delhi government and the central government of inaction and poor coordination, saying that promises of clean air have remained empty words for years.

> “Every year it’s the same story — schools close, visibility drops, and hospitals fill with patients. We want action, not excuses,” said Riya Sharma, a student protester from South Delhi.

Air quality in the city has reached ‘severe’ levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing 500 in several areas. Thick smog has reduced visibility and caused a spike in respiratory illnesses, prompting health advisories from medical experts.

Environmental groups have urged immediate steps including:

A ban on construction and industrial emissions during high-pollution periods,

Strict control of crop burning in neighboring states, and

Public transport incentives to reduce vehicle pollution.

Authorities, meanwhile, say they are monitoring the situation closely. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has implemented emergency measures under GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan), but experts say enforcement remains weak.

As one protester summed it up —

> “Delhi doesn’t need more policies on paper. It needs political will — and clean air to breathe.”
