As the Parliament’s Budget Session 2026 begins, opposition parties are preparing to move a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The move comes amid growing tensions between the treasury benches and the opposition over the functioning of the House.
Opposition leaders have alleged bias in the Speaker’s conduct of proceedings, claiming their voices have been repeatedly curtailed during key debates. The government, however, has dismissed these allegations, asserting that parliamentary rules are being followed.
If admitted, the motion is expected to trigger a heated debate in the Lok Sabha during the Budget Session.
