Vinesh Phogat Victory in Julana, Wins Maiden Assembly Election by 6,000 Votes

Congress candidate and celebrated wrestler Vinesh Phogat triumphed in her political debut, securing the Julana seat in the Haryana Assembly election. Phogat defeated her BJP rival, Yogesh Kumar, by a margin of 6,015 votes, according to the Election Commission. INLD candidate Surender Lather placed third in this high-stakes contest in Jind district.

Despite briefly trailing during the vote count, Phogat regained the lead and maintained a comfortable edge to claim victory. Her win is seen as a major boost for the Congress party in the region.

The Julana seat was previously held by Amarjeet Dhanda of the JJP, aligned with the BJP-led NDA, in the 2019 election. In earlier elections, the constituency was dominated by INLD’s Parminder Singh Dhull, who won in both 2014 and 2009.

Haryana went to the polls in a single phase on October 5, with a state-wide voter turnout of 67.90%. Julana recorded an impressive 74.66% turnout, underscoring the significance of Phogat’s win.
