Jammu, September 30: In a shocking incident, an Army Naik allegedly opened fire at a physiotherapy centre in Sainik Colony, Jammu, after his marriage proposal to a colleague was rejected.
Victim Dies, Others Critical
The attack claimed the life of 30-year-old Mahjabeen Aqeel Sheikh from Mumbai on August 29. Two other women—her sister Fatima (21) and Jaspreet Kaur (28) from Ludhiana—are critically injured and undergoing treatment.
Initial Cover-Up
Authorities initially presented the injuries as results of a road accident. However, later investigations confirmed gunshot wounds.
Police Action
An FIR for murder and attempted murder was lodged on September 18. Three police officials have been suspended, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed. The case is now with the Crime Branch.
Ongoing Investigation
Sher Singh, the accused Army Naik, has been arrested. Police are investigating the origin of the weapon and probing lapses in the initial response.
