PM Modi Addresses Israeli Knesset, Signals Shift in India–Israel Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Knesset, calling it an “honor” and highlighting the “deep-rooted friendship” between India and Israel.

In his speech, Modi underlined the growing cooperation between the two nations in areas such as defence, technology, innovation, and intelligence sharing. He said the partnership is based on shared democratic values and mutual strategic interests.

The address marks a significant diplomatic moment, as India historically supported the Palestinian cause and played a leading role in the Non-Aligned Movement. Under Modi’s leadership, however, New Delhi has recalibrated its Middle East policy, building closer and more visible ties with Israel.

Analysts say Modi’s speech to the Knesset reflects this shift, signalling that India now views Israel as a key strategic partner while pursuing a more pragmatic and interest-driven foreign policy.
