A 2,492-carat diamond, the largest found in over a century, was discovered at Botswana’s Karowe Mine, making it the second-biggest diamond ever mined.
The fist-sized gem, weighing approximately half a kilogram, was presented to Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who described the moment as “overwhelming.”
The diamond’s value and sale plans remain undetermined, but its discovery adds to Botswana’s reputation as a leading producer of massive diamonds, including the 2019 Sewelo diamond.
