Apple Launches M5 Chip: A Major Upgrade for AI Performance

Apple has announced its new M5 chip, calling it the biggest jump in AI performance ever seen in Apple silicon. The chip is built using Apple’s new 3-nanometer technology and brings major improvements in speed, graphics, AI processing, and power efficiency.
What Makes the M5 Special?
Apple says the M5 is over 4x faster in AI GPU performance compared to the M4. The chip has:
A next-gen 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator inside every GPU core
A faster Neural Engine
A more powerful CPU
153GB/s unified memory bandwidth (almost 30% more than M4)
This means apps using AI—like image generation, video tools, large language models, and VR features—will run much faster.
Devices That Get the M5
The new chip powers:
14-inch MacBook Pro (Buy Macbook Pro M5)
iPad Pro
Apple Vision Pro
All three are now available for pre-order.
Huge Boost for AI & Graphics
The new GPU delivers:
4x better AI compute performance than M4
6x better AI performance than M1
Up to 45% faster graphics
Apple’s third-generation ray tracing for more realistic lighting in games
Faster rendering for apps like Final Cut Pro, Blender, and 3D design tools

For Vision Pro, the M5 makes display performance smoother with up to 120Hz refresh rate and clearer visuals.
Smarter Neural Engine
The updated 16-core Neural Engine lets the device run advanced AI features more efficiently, including:
Apple Intelligence features
On-device image generation (Image Playground)
Spatial photos on Vision Pro
Better performance for apps using Apple’s Foundation AI models
More Memory for Bigger AI Models
With 153GB/s bandwidth and support for up to 32GB unified memory, the M5 allows:
Larger AI models to run fully on-device
Multiple heavy apps (ex: Photoshop + Final Cut) to run together
Faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine performance
Energy Efficient & Environment-Friendly
The M5 chip consumes less power while giving more performance. This helps Apple move closer to its Apple 2030 goal of becoming fully carbon neutral.
